Calvin(Cal) Fredrick Thompson age 74 of Athens, TN passed away Wednesday, February 12,2025 in a Knoxville, TN hospital. He was a member of Mt.Lebanon Missionary Baptist church in Calhoun, TN. He was the son of August(Bus) and Rosie Lee Cook-Thompson, both who preceded him in death. He is also proceeded in death by his sisters, Margaret Westfield, Ella Mae Latham, Edna Ann Thompson, and Marcie T. Newton. And brothers, James Thompson, Joe Lewis Thompson, Johnny Thompson, Steve Thompson,and William Thompson.
He retired from the Tennessee Department of Transportation as an operator and also spent numerous years working at Athens Plow Company. Calvin had one daughter, Krystal Thompson. And three grandchildren, Tykeja (Keke) McCroskey, Marlin (Mark) McCroskey Jr., and Shondria Thompson.
He was extremely hard working, and often spent his time during retirement helping others with lawn care, transportation, or just paying them a visit.
Calvin is survived by three siblings, Thomas (Wanda-Faye) Thompson of Georgetown, TN, Mary Winton of Athens,TN , Theresa(Sherman) Huff of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and one sister in law Madra Thompson of McDonough,GA. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special nephew Mike Thompson. Special friends include, Paul Brown, Rudy Swafford, Betty Brown and extended family.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. In the chapel of M.D. Dotson and Sons Funeral Home - Cleveland, TN., with Rev. Reginald L. Ferguson officiating. The family will receive friends one before the service at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at St. Elmo Cemetery in Georgetown, TN.
