Carl Benson Obituary
Memorial service will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, May 31, 2024 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Carl was born on August 27, 1937 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Willie Leola (Smith) and Harold Benson. In 1953, Carl moved with his family to Amarillo, Texas and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1954. He attended Amarillo Junior College and graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Geology in 1958. Carl married Maynon (Martin) Benson on September 7, 1957. Maynon and Carl had 2 children, Adam who was born in 1964 and Anje born in 1968.
Carl was successful at several careers. First at Texaco where he worked as a geologist. Carl built a life insurance business and then established Benson McCown, an oil and gas production company, with his friend and business partner James McCown.
Carl is preceded in death by his grandson Clint Apple, brother Wally Benson, sister Nan Benson, half-brother Kent Benson, and parents Harold and Willie Leola (Smith) Benson.
Carl is survived by the following family, Maynon Benson (wife), Adam Benson (son), Julie Benson (daughter in law) and granddaughters Ainsley and Allyson, Anje Benson Waalkes (daughter), Justin Waalkes (son in law) and grandson Dillon Apple, Niece Julie Benson Ross and nephew Hal Benson.
