Carl Lavon Birmingham, 82, of Black Rock, passed from this life on Thursday, November 21, 2025, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was born on April 13, 1943, to the late Johnathan and Elizabeth Birmingham.
We gather today in heartfelt remembrance of Carl Levon Birmingham, a man whose life was guided by integrity, quiet strength, and a profound devotion to both family and the land he loved. Though we mourn his passing, we come together with deep gratitude for the legacy he leaves behind and the countless ways he touched the lives of others.
Mr. Birmingham was a man of the land in every sense of the word. His farm, with its goats, horses, and his cherished bantam chickens, reflected who he was: patient, consistent, compassionate, and deeply connected to the natural world. The care he gave his animals - and the peace he found in that daily rhythm - spoke volumes about his character and the values he lived by.
In his earlier years, Carl was widely respected for his exceptional skill in breaking horses. He possessed a rare understanding of these powerful animals, guiding them with calmness and confidence. Through trail rides and long days spent working with horses, he created opportunities not only for himself but for others. Carl had a way of taking people under his wing - offering guidance, structure, and a steady hand to those seeking a new path or a chance to set their lives back in order. His influence extended far beyond the farm fences; it reached into the hearts and futures of those who needed someone to believe in them.
Above all else, Carl was a family man. He is survived by his three children - Steven Birmingham, Carla Birmingham, and Wanda Fountain - each of whom carries forward a part of his spirit. In addition to his children, Carl leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a large and loving family that stands as a testament to the strength of his legacy. The values he instilled - hard work, humility, patience, and kindness - live on in each generation that follows him.
Carl was not a man who sought recognition. His lessons were offered not through grand speeches, but through his example: the way he worked, the way he treated others, and the quiet dignity with which he faced every day. He made others feel grounded, safe, and understood. His presence provided reassurance; his wisdom provided direction. As we reflect on his life, we recognize that his impact cannot be measured by accomplishments alone, but by the lives he shaped, the people he helped, and the family he loved so deeply. Though we feel the weight of his absence, we remain strengthened by the memory of who he was and the life he lived.
Today, we honor Carl Levon Birmingham - a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a mentor, and a man of unwavering character. May we carry forward the values he embodied, and may his memory remain a blessing to all who knew him.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Saffell Missionary Baptist Church from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. with funeral services immediately following at 1 p.m. David Hardin will officiate.
