Carl Hoffman
November 25, 1985 – July 11, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Carl Hoffman, who died in the early morning hours of July 11, 2025, at the age of 39. Born on November 25, 1985, in St. Petersburg, Florida, Carl lived a life marked by service, strength, and deep compassion for others.
Early Life and Military Service
Carl served honorably in the United States Army for eleven and a half years, beginning in 2004. He completed four overseas tours and was the recipient of multiple commendations, including the Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM) with Valor and Purple Hearts, recognizing his bravery, sacrifice, and commitment in combat.
Post-Service Contributions
After his discharge, Carl remained devoted to his fellow veterans. He volunteered with the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and helped found Post Up for Soldiers, a nonprofit dedicated to checking on and supporting isolated, disabled veterans in rural Arizona-a mission rooted in both experience and heart.
Known for his good sense of humor and strong leadership, Carl also dedicated time to helping youth on probation in Arizona, assisting them in gaining job skills and supporting their path to a better future. In his last few years, he started a handyman business, putting his skills to work helping people in his community.
Family and Personal Life
Carl was a devoted and loving father to his two daughters, Alexis and Ashlee. Throughout his service and beyond, they remained deeply dedicated to him, offering unwavering love and support. Proud of their father, they were a constant source of strength for Carl, who in turn held a tender heart for them. Though known for his strength, he showed his daughters gentle kindness and care. They were the center of his world, and his fierce love for them was a guiding light through life's challenges.
He also shared a profound and lasting bond with his brother Darren, a constant source of support and friendship. Carl held a special place in his heart for his niece Juli and nephew Chris, and is also survived by his father Jeff and sister Meg.
Legacy and Memories
Kindness was at the core of who Carl was. Whether it was a friend, a stranger, or a fellow veteran on the street, Carl went out of his way to help anyone in need. His quiet generosity touched more lives than anyone will ever know, and his compassion left a lasting impact wherever he went.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Leo, his grandmother Millie, and by his brothers-in-arms-fellow soldiers he served alongside and carried with him always. Their memory remained with him throughout his life, and now he joins them in peace.
A service to celebrate Carl's life will be held on Saturday, July 26th, at Dahl Funeral Chapel, located at 10 Yellowstone Avenue, Billings, Montana. Friends, family, and fellow veterans are invited to attend and honor his memory.
Carl's life was defined by courage, loyalty, and an unwavering drive to help others-especially his fellow veterans. He carried both strength and softness, always putting others before himself. His legacy lives on through the people he loved, the lives he touched, and the service he gave without hesitation.
Carl was also an admirer of classic literature-especially the works of Edgar Allan Poe, whose dark beauty and emotional depth spoke to his soul. It feels only fitting to leave you with words that meant something to him:
"The boundaries which divide Life from Death are at best shadowy and vague. Who shall say where the one ends, and where the other begins?"
- Edgar Allan Poe
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him
