Carl R. Hudson, age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Orchard Manor, Lancaster, WI. He was born on June 13, 1932, in Lancaster, the son of Byron and Daisy (Bailie) Hudson. Carl attended rural school in Ellenboro township through 8th grade and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1950.
On September 17, 1951, Carl married his high school sweetheart Betty L. Henderson. Together, they took over the family farm and raised their 10 children. In addition to farming, Carl worked nights for 37 years for “the Pack” (Dubuque Packing Company, later FDL Foods). In retirement, Carl enjoyed fishing and gardening and always shared the bounty with family and friends. When asked if he was able to fish a lot in retirement, he said, “I fish about half as much as I want to and twice as much as my wife wants me to.”
Preceded in death by his wife Betty in May 2018, Carl is survived by their children; Cheryl Bartels, Steven (Vicki) Hudson, Donna (Tom) Sikhart, Mark Hudson, Joyce (Mark) Dickman, Keith Hudson, Pam Hudson, Janis (Roger) Oyen, Kelly (Michael) Chadd, and Nancy (David) Thompson, 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and two nieces.
In addition to his wife and parents, Carl is preceded in death by son-in-law Dennis Bartels, granddaughter Brianna Oyen, grandson Carlyle Oyen, great-grandson Oliver Conant, and sister Barbara Jean Keeney.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lancaster Congregational Church, with Pastor Mark Dieter officiating. Private family burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may call on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory of Lancaster is assisting the family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Grant County Hospice, Grant Regional Health Center, and UW Hospital for the care and support they provided to Dad and his family.
