Carl "Ralph" Noel (aka Sonny, Stink and Stink Pa)
Ralph was born August 20, 1935 in Zavalla, Texas where he lived on a cotton farm with his parents and 11 brothers and sisters. He shared stories of picking cotton, a pet raccoon, twelve kids fighting for the last biscuit and all the trouble he and his brothers would get into.
He graduated from Zavalla High School in 1953, where he boasted of being voted most handsome before he admitted it was only a class of 12. Shortly after graduation, he join the U. S. Army and was deployed to Korea as a medic. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he married the love of his life, Helen in 1956. With daughters Karen and Carol, he soon found himself happily outnumbered in a house of women.
He worked for Shell until he was laid off during a strike. Following Shell, he went to work for Pitney-Bowes where he was highly respected and retired after 33 years without a sick day.
As Charter members of the Second Baptist Church of LaPorte, Ralph and Helen were instrumental in its formation in 1958 and maintain their membership to date. Ralph helped with landscaping, building maintenance, security and built the Pray and Rose gardens.
Ralph loved gardening, was known for his roses, and kept friends and family stocked with fresh vegetables. He was able to fix anything around the house or with the cars. He loved time spent with family and was always singing. Road trips were filled with songs like "Found a Peanut", "The Old Grey Mare" and "A Hole at the Bottom of the Sea". But his favorite was "Lord It's Hard to Be Humble", which he would sign loud and proud early in the morning. Ralph was a jokester who brought laughter with his humor, jokes and antics to all who knew him.
He was totally devoted to his wife and daughters, who he instilled a strong work ethic, sense of humor and independence. He was so proud of his grandchildren and took every opportunity to be a part of their lives. He loved watching his great-grandsons running around and wrestling like he did with his brothers. He was the rock that the family was built on and his daughters and granddaughters felt that he set the high standard for all other men.
Those who knew him, knew he was a man of honor, integrity, who loved and cared for his family and who would leave you a joke and a smile.
Ralph is survived by wife of 66 years, Helen and daughters Karen Hudson and Carol Jaminola, husband Rudy. Four granddaughters, Meghan Leyva, husband Bob, Jennifer David, husband Steven, Brittany Burlette, husband Nick and Kyli Jaminola. One grandson, Zachary Faust, wife Macey.
