Carl L Spidel, 92, of Chambersburg, passed peacefully at his home surrounded by family, Tuesday September 17, 2024. He was born Sunday July 10th, 1932, to the late Roy and Elva (Forney) Spidel in Chambersburg.
Carl is also preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Patricia (Johnston) Spidel and a grandson James. He is survived by his three children Jeffrey and his wife Vickie Spidel of St. Thomas, Steven and his wife Brenda Spidel of Greencastle, and his daughter Pamela John and husband Harold of Chambersburg; ten grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister Donna Murray, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Carl was a graduate of Chambersburg High School in 1950. He worked as an insurance salesman and staff manager for 33 years. He proudly served in the Navy during the Korean War and served on the USS New Jersey. He is a member of the American Legion out of Greencastle Post 373. He was known for volunteer work, both in the Gideon’s and at his church, Bethel Assembly of God. He was a Sunday School teacher for many years. He volunteered as a Lay Chaplin at the Chambersburg Hospital as well.
His funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept 20th, 2024, at 12:30 PM in the Bethel Assembly of God, Chambersburg, with Pastor Aaron Lawrence officiating. Internment will follow in Norland Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends at the church 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Condolences and memories may be shared at geiselfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Gideon’s International www.gideons.org.
