Carl Hubbell Tankersley, affectionately known as Carl to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on the 4th of June, 2025, in his birthplace of Maryland. Born on September 4, 1936, Carl's journey through life was marked by his warm sense of humor, profound wisdom, and selfless nature.
Carl's early years in Maryland laid the foundation for a life full of love, laughter, and dedication. He was the cherished son of the late Jennings and Thelma Tankersley and was predeceased by his beautiful wife of 68 years Julia Tankersley, brother Paul Tankersley and sister Eleanor Bicking. Carl's family was his pride and joy, and he was a beloved patriarch who will be deeply missed by his children, Carl Tankersley, Jr. (Wendy), Lori Brewster (David), and Jeri Bozman (Robert). His legacy extends to his adoring grandchildren, Kelsey Zagami (Ben), Riley Bozman, Sonya Brewster, Davidalan Brewster, Amber Kusina (Rob), Adam Tankersley (Rosanna), Abby Buecker (Matt), and Rob Bozman (Angela), as well as his nine great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.
Throughout his life, Carl was a pillar in his community, known for his charismatic personality and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. After a fulfilling career as a Sales Manager at Montgomery Ward, where he retired with accolades and the respect of his colleagues, Carl dedicated his time to nurturing young minds as an Assistant Teacher at Parkside High School. His commitment to education and his genuine interest in the success of his students left an indelible mark on many lives. Carl's passion for sports was undeniable, and he was a fervent supporter of the Baltimore Orioles. He was named after the famous baseball player Carl Hubbell, who played for the New York Giants. His love for the game was only matched by his love for the great outdoors; he found solace and joy in camping and cherished every opportunity to share these experiences with his family. Carl's presence was a source of comfort and happiness at every family gathering, and his stories and laughter were the heart of countless cherished memories.
Those who knew Carl would immediately recall his funny anecdotes that could light up a room, the wise counsel he provided during times of need, and his selfless acts that demonstrated his love and commitment to those around him. Carl lived a life that exemplified the values he held dear, and his influence will continue to be felt by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Carl Hubbell Tankersley, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man well-loved. He was a beacon of joy and a true gentleman who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him. While his physical presence will be missed, his spirit lives on through the lives of his family and the memories they hold dear. Carl's journey on this earth may have concluded, but the story of his life will continue to inspire and guide us for generations to come.
