Carla Lynn Haynie Shaffer, 62, of Georgetown, formerly of Lampasas, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
Services will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel Lampasas on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 10 am with a visitation an hour prior. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
Carla was born on July 31, 1961, in Lampasas, TX to Walter Y. and Carolyn J. Haynie. She was raised in Lampasas and graduated from Lampasas High School in 1979. During her time in Lampasas, Carla was a cheerleader at Lampasas Jr. High School, a member of the Lampasas High School Badger Band where she played drums, and a lieutenant of the Lampasas Flames Drill Team her senior year. She was a member of XFX and various other school clubs. Carla graduated from Tarleton State University with a degree in Early Childhood Development and received a teaching certificate. Carla taught for 16 years at Flour Bluff ISD, Elementary in Corpus Christi, TX, and 14 years as a 4th grade ELA teacher with Hutto ISD. She retired after 30 years of teaching in December 2020. Carla was funny and witty; creative, kind and loving. She was an amazing teacher whose students continued to stay in touch with her many years later. She loved her family and friends with all of her heart, and she is loved with all of ours. Carla was a member of the First Street Church of Christ in Lampasas, and Windsor Park Church of Christ in Corpus Christi, TX.
Carla was preceded in death by her father, Walter Y. Haynie and her grandparents, Walter W. and Ruth Haynie, Wilburn and V.O. Fisk.
She is survived by her daughter, Reilly Shaffer; her mother, Carolyn Fisk Haynie; her sister, Cara Haynie Pena; her brothers, Barry Haynie (Lisa) and Bryan Haynie (Vickie); her nieces, Jennifer Haynie Dunford (Gabriel), Taylor Haynie, Sarah Haynie and Jordan Haynie; her nephews, Roman Brown (Keisha) and Alex Pena; great-nieces, Isabella, Annabelle and Amelia and great-nephews, Michael, Bennett and Rhys. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, and will be dearly missed.
