Jerry Carothers, 85, passed away on October 17, 2025 at his home in Round Rock, Texas. He was born on March 5, 1940 in Lometa, Texas to Clive and Ila Cagle Carothers
Services will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 3 pm with visitation an hour prior. Burial will follow at Lometa Cemetery.
Jerry grew up in Lometa, Texas where he was a member of the Lometa United Methodist Church. He graduated from Lometa High School in 1958. After high school, he attended Tarleton State University for two years and then completed his bachelor's degree in civil engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. After graduation, he began teaching engineering for the U.S. Army in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Eventually, Jerry started a private sector engineering consulting business known as Atlantic Testing Lab. In late 1986, Jerry returned to his hometown of Lometa, Texas to pursue a variety of entrepreneurial ventures. He had always hoped to develop novel lines of business that could benefit his community. Jerry relocated to Austin in 2000 where he enjoyed his final years with his longtime life partner, Dorothy (Dot) Johnson. Together, they worked on a variety of business projects, explored the Texas Hill Country, and enjoyed camping by the coast. During Jerry's retirement years, he cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Delora Johnson, and eldest sister, Florice Heizer all of Lometa, Texas.
He is survived by his sister, Pat Bohmfalk of Katy, Texas; partner, Dot Johnson of Round Rock, Texas; Cindy and Joe Toy of Maurertown, Virginia; Cecilia Dahlen of Elm Mott, Texas; Sara Tello of Lubbock, Texas and Jason Carothers of Portland, Oregon; his nine grandchildren, Joe McKeown, Bryan Toy, Michael McKeown, Corey Toy, Jeremy Toy, Nadia Tello, Lena Tello, Laela Tello, and Bernadette Skonberg-Carothers and many great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
