Carla Lemons Jarrells, 80, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 7, 2024. The daughter of Carl A. Lemons and Emogene Ferguson Lemons, Carla was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on November 27, 1943. She was a 1961 graduate of Dentsville High School. After completing a work/study program at Baptist Hospital, Carla worked for over 40 years in the medical field as a radiology technician. Her long career began at Baptist Hospital in Columbia, followed by years at the Beaufort Memorial Hospital, the Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the King Faisal Hospital in Saudia Arabia, and the Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital, before retiring on April 23, 2013. She was recognized for her 40+ years of service, and inducted into the Palmetto Health Baptist Radiology Services Hall of Fame, where her picture is still on display today.
Following retirement Carla loved to spend time remodeling her home, spending time with her many friends, going to the movies, and attending Dentsville High School reunion luncheons with her classmates. She was a proud daughter and mother of a United States military veteran, and proudly displayed their military achievements and photos throughout her home.
Carla was preceded in death by her parents, Carl A. Lemons and Emogene Lemons, her sister Gail Boone, and her brother Gary Lemons. She is survived by her son William Jarrells (Donna) of Aviano, Italy/Hopkins, South Carolina.
The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the Prisma Health Hospice and Palliative Care teams (Dr Leones) for the exceptional care she received in her final days at the Prisma Health Richland Hospital. Special thanks to ALL of the providers and staff at Prisma Health Senior Primary Care, and especially her care team to include: Taj Reid, NP., Sarah Garrison LISW, and Christi Fant, RN, for their compassion and support of not only Carla's physical health, but her mental and emotional health as well.
Per Carla's wishes, the family will be holding a private memorial service. Details will be shared for a Celebration of Life at later date. If desired, memorial donations in Carla Jarrells' memory may be directed to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation www.t2t.org an organization that supports fallen and injured veterans/first responders and their families.
