He planned to pass away peacefully, at home with his loving wife and sole full time care giver, Kimberly "Jo Baby and 2 faithful companions, Faith and Grace by his side. They fell in love on the job. It wasn't love at first sight, however, it was love forever. It took them sometime to know how they felt about each other. It was never perfect, but together, they were perfect for each other! There were some bad times and there were more amazing times! The best thing was they ALWAYS loved each other and found GOD together! A love like that doesn't happen but once in a life time. The book may be finished however, their story will never be over, because one day, they will be reunited in heaven, walking hand in hand beside our Lord and Savor Jesus Christ, Our God!
Carl was retired (partially), from Nugent Sand Company as The Director of River Operations for over 46 years. Carl loved his job more than anything else, besides God and his family. His love was for the river, buying the towboats, especially the M/V Maggie and the dredge he built in the 70's, the Miss Kate. You can take the man from the river, but you can't take the river from the man!
He never met a stranger. Everywhere he went he instantly became best friends with whoever he was talking to. He was very funny and quick with a joke to tell, and sure to make you laugh. He was a great husband to Kimberly for 29 years, building their life together, raising kids and grandkids, and a lot of fur babies! He loved deeply and worked hard to make sure they never went without what they needed. He was kind hearted and gave freely and never once asked for anything in return except for respect.
He used to love riding motorcycles before he started losing his balance and he loved helping to put on runs for Bikers Against Cancer. He made some amazing friends through those charity rides also. He liked to play poker occasionally and I must say he wasn't too bad at it. He didn't really care about winning, it was more about spending time with his friends. He also loved spending time with our neighbors and friends, David and Joann. They came to see him almost every day! Him and David were two peas in a pod! They cut up and laughed all the time! They spent so much time together, if one was sick, so was the other, there for a while!
He loved going to his church, Pleasant Ridge Baptist, and didn't miss very often until he became ill. Even then, when he was able, he would have his wife, Kimberly takes him and his best friend Sam waiting for him to push him in a wheelchair to go inside. Sometimes, Even Sam and Rita would pick him up at home and take him, so Kimberly could have a little break. Only towards the end did he not attend.
Carl was a full on Christian and his love for the Lord was very visible. He had no problem letting people know of his love for the Father and sharing the gospel, and how good God has been to him and his family. If you didn't know him, when he would get started, you would swear he was a preacher. Ask our kids, they will tell you because they all have received sermons from him! He loved having visits from Pastor Brian, also the Deacons, Rick and Ron, not to mention his ole buddies Ray and Sam and hanging out with his buddy Dave. Then he met Eric, the Chaplain from Hospice. They became quick friends and he would come and visit pretty regular also! Can't leave out Randy and Marsha either! As busy as they were and everything they had going on, they always managed to either check in or come by.
He met Nathan through Hospice and had a bond instantly. He felt so comfortable with him, that he wanted him to perform his service, if Kim had no one else. They talked a lot about life and the afterlife and if he was right with the Lord. He definitely was. His only concern was leaving Kimberly behind.
He pre-arranged his service and HE picked out most of the songs he wanted played. He asked Randy and Marsha to sing because he loved them so much and loved to hear them sing. He was very grateful to Randy for setting him up on Hospice. He made so many friends with the nurses. Susan was his favorite, but he absolutely loved them all, especially Jessica, Savana, Kathy and, Amanda. He would tease Savana and call her Georgia. I could go on forever but it would take way too long.
Carl was loved by just about everyone he met. Adults and kids alike. Little CC would get his glasses and his devotional and sit just like him and pretend to read it to him and tell everyone she was reading to "Uncle Carol". He will be loved and missed deeply by all that new him. Rest In Peace my darling. Until we meet again, and we will. You are now with "The Keeper of the Stars", his and Kimberly's first dance at their wedding!
