Carlton Cornell Kelly, beloved nephew, cousin, and friend, passed away on May 30, 2025. Born January 9, 1952, at Saint Peters Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ, Carlton was the cherished only child of William and Gertrude Kelly, who both predeceased him.
Carlton spent his formative years in New Brunswick, where he attended local public schools and graduated from New Brunswick High School. At age 10, he was baptized and became a member of First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens. From the third grade onward, he maintained an longtime friendship with Al Jenkins. Later, Carlton served his country with honor in the United States Army, earning an honorable discharge.
Known for his impeccable style, Carlton was always the best dressed man in any room. His presence was unmistakable, often recognized by his signature neck brace, a result of a life-changing accident. Despite the challenges he faced, Carlton carried himself with dignity and grace.
He retired as a painter from International Union of Painters & Allied Trades District Council #711, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and craftsmanship. Carlton was a deep thinker, able to make sense of life's complexities and see things from unique perspectives. He valued his privacy, but his warmth and intelligence touched everyone who knew him.
Carlton is survived by a loving family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
"He was truly loved and will be missed by all of us."
