Carmelite "Cam" Caballero Gradwohl, a lifelong resident of Kenner, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, on her 94th birthday.
Born in Paincourtville, Louisiana, on September 1, 1931, Cam was the daughter of the late Edmund Caballero and the late Angeline Landry Caballero. She was one of ten siblings and is preceded in death by her beloved husband Morris Gradwohl. Brothers and sisters: Lucy, Rosalie, John, Jeanna, Ned, Louis, Percy, Mercedes, and Audrey Caballero.
Cam dedicated her life to family, faith, and community. She worked in the school system in her early years as a bus driver and crossing guard, and later served the city of Kenner Police Department, where she was known for her dedication, warm spirit and quick-witted personality.
A devoted catholic, Cam was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, where she found joy and purpose in leading the Rosary. Her faith remained a pillar of strength throughout her life.
Cam had a deep love for animals and enjoyed a variety of hobbies including bowling, gardening, painting ceramics, playing baseball, and working on crossword puzzles. She was also an enthusiastic fan of both New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers, rarely missing a game on TV.
She is survived by her children, Mark Gradwohl (Shannon), and stepdaughter Eileen Gradwohl; adoring grandchildren, Brittany Gradwohl and Corey Gradwohl (Renee), and two great grandchildren Caroline and Cooper. Cam is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, all whom she loved dearly.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive
Metairie, Louisiana, 70001. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, with a Catholic Mass following at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow immediately after.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request that donations be made in Cam's memory to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause that held a special place in her heart.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the friends and staff of St. Francis Villa, Guardian Angels Hospice, and a special thanks to her devoted caregiver, Mrs. Brenda, for the compassionate care and kindness shown during Cam's final days.
