Virginia Malbrough Boquet passed away on November 19 at the age of 91, surrounded by
her family. She was born on May 27, 1934 to Duiet and Lillian Malbrough. She was
preceded in death by Jerry, her husband of almost 60 years, her son Glenn Boquet, her
siblings Duiet Jr., Gail, Brenda and Linda, and her parents. She is survived by her three
daughters Melanie (Richard) Pace, Laurie (Lad) Dory and Tina (Pete) Fischer and her
daughter-in-law Karen Boquet.
Virginia worked in her father's sweet shop where she met her sweetheart and love of her life,
Jerry, whom she married in 1951. She attended St. Joseph Academy High School and
furthered her education at Tulane University, Loyola University and Our Lady of Holy Cross
College. She worked as a teacher which allowed her to spend afternoons and summers with
her own four children. She taught at Immaculate Heart of Mary, Resurrection of our Lord and
St. James Major. After her children were grown, she started a new successful career as a
real estate broker and earned the Graduate Realtor Institute designation and became the
office manager at Merrill Lynch.
Her artistic talents included singing, writing and painting beautiful porcelain dolls. She loved
fishing and boating which she enjoyed with Jerry and her family for many years at her camp
on Lake Catherine and continued to enjoy when she moved to Venetian isles. Her other
passion was gardening and she was a very active member of the Venetian Isles Garden
club. She was an expert at growing orchids and would often revive orchids of her friends.
Virginia greatly enjoyed cooking and entertaining both family and friends. She hosted
countless Thanksgiving dinners where she was in charge of cooking the turkey and many of
the sides. She was known for hosting themed dinner parties served on elaborately
decorated tables and creative place settings. She also loved decorating for every holiday
and had a flair for fashion.
The two most important things to Virginia were family and friends. She often said "My family
is my life!" She was blessed with 7 grandchildren and will be sadly missed by Jacqueline,
Nathan, Paul, Danielle, Ryan, Nicole and Michelle. She was then blessed even further with
12 great-grandchildren: Dominic, Sofia, Katherine, Caleb, Judah, LG, Fiona, Miles, Owen,
Lillian, Allysa and Collin. Virginia was called Ginny and then MaMa Ginny and then
eventually Gigi or G by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She had many friends in Venetian Isles and they helped her in so many ways. They provided
meals, assistance after storms, transportation as needed and wonderful friendships. She
considered her Venetian Isles friends "Angels on the Bayou". Her family wishes to thank
these angels for their loving support and for allowing her to be able to live in her home until
the age of 91. She had many nieces and nephews who were very special to her and helped
care for her, especially the Boos family - Cherie, Kenny, Brett, Tricia, Lorna and Tammy.
As Virginia's heart weakened, her spirit of determination remained strong to the very end!
She will be remembered for her passion for life, her joy in entertaining and her strong bonds
with her family and friends.
