Carolyn McCord Allen

Carol Allen lived a full and wonderful life with her family and friends. This all ended when the cruelty of Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease entered her life. She passed on November 12, 2025, at Alive Hospice.

Carol was born in Nashville, Tennessee on September 25, 1946, as one of what would ultimately be six children. After graduating from John Overton High School, she attended Memphis State where she received her Bachelor of Education Degree. Returning to Nashville in 1968, she married Fred A. Allen III and started what she was known to say was her favorite job ever, teaching first grade at Lockeland Elementary School. She did not get to stay in this role for too long as motherhood came about in 1970 with the birth of her one and only, Angie. This next phase of life in this role was filled with multiple stints as Room Mother, carpool mom (who would stop for grape slushies at the Star Market or Purple Cow for all!), FRA Brownie Troop 242 Leader, summers at Crocket Springs pool, and all things "Mom". Bored in 1981, she and a neighbor friend decided they would get part time jobs and responded to an ad in the paper for part time seasonal positions with the Internal Revenue Service. About 18 years later, her second favorite period in life happened when she was selected to represent the IRS in a partnership position with Booz-Allen Accounting in Washington, D.C. What was initially to be a 6-month placement turned into a 3-year stay when Booz-Allen kept asking for extensions on her time with them as they liked her so much! She loved her time in D.C. as did her friends and family as frequently going to visit her there was so much fun!

Thirty-one years with the IRS ended in 2010 when retirement happened! Travel with friends, Bridge Club, Book Club, her PEO Group, her NARFE group, long held volunteer positions with the Friends of the Brentwood Library and the Nashville Symphony all filled her active schedule. A return to Brownie Troop leader shockingly returned in her 60's when she and her sister Helen took on the role jointly for the little girls in Helen's granddaughter's class at St. Paul when no actual mothers would volunteer to do the job….and yes, the "grandmothers" even took the little girls camping! She enjoyed it all!

Carol is survived by her daughter, Angie Allen (Rowan Millar); sisters Joann Heinrich, Patsy Byers and Helen Brooks; and numerous nieces, nephews and lovely friends. She is preceded in death by husband, Fred; her mother, Ollie McCord; brothers Harold and Jim; and other beloved relatives.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider a donation to the following organizations that were near and dear to Carol. Nashville Symphony, One Symphony Place, Nashville, TN 37201; Nashville Humane Association, 213 Oceola Ave., Nashville, TN 37209; Friends of the Brentwood Library, 8109 Concord Rd., Brentwood, TN 37027 or Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203

The family would also like the thank the various friends in mom's life who before her move to memory care became necessary, would still come and take her to see plays, to hear performances at the Schermerhorn, take her to her various social gatherings involving her groups so she could still feel included, take her to The Picnic…. It was all very appreciated! We would also like to thank Dr. David Hutchings, PhD, for your help on this journey.

Rest In Peace Mom! You Deserve It!
