Jonathan Hickerson Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Jonathan "Jon" Wesley Hickerson, age 48, a beloved father, husband, brother and son passed away Sunday evening, October 12, 2025. He continued to live joyfully while at home with his family following a devastating stroke in June of 2022.
While born in Baton Rouge, LA, to Diane Joyce Hickerson and the late Earnest Henry Hickerson Jr., on March 14, 1977, he considered himself a Nashville native, having lived here since he was a baby. However, he was very proud of his Cajun roots and was known for making a mean jambalaya.
Jon graduated in the John Overton High School class of 1995, then went to Emory University in Atlanta, GA. He obtained a bachelor's degree in political science. He thoroughly enjoyed his time away at college and made many lifelong friends. It was also when he was introduced to Tortillas and his love of a good burrito was born! While he loved to talk history and politics, he
never ended up going into that field, instead, ended up finding an amazing work family at Valutec/FIS, working in the IT field.
After returning to Nashville after graduation, he met Amber Ann Lashbrook, the love of his life. They met through their shared love of Pat Green's music. They enjoyed traveling to Texas, Louisiana and the rare Tennessee shows to see him perform. On July 9, 2005, they were married at Blakemore United Methodist Church in Nashville. They built a house in Christiana,
where they have been raising their family. Jon and Amber celebrated their 20th anniversary this past July.
Jon shared many of his passions with his children, Emma and Ethan. He loved cooking, hunting, music, history, Star Wars, hockey and many more things. He loved to spend time in the kitchen and would let Emma help with small tasks when she was younger, which led her to be a promising cook in adulthood. His love of all things history was also passed on to his daughter.
Jon shared his dad's love of music with the whole family, although his tastes in music were a little more diverse. His love of hunting was passed down to both of his kids early on through their love of archery – both introduced to it around the age of 6. Emma competed in archery for 10 years, while Ethan has competed for six and counting. Jon loved going to practices and
tournaments to support his young archers. Jon also was a big hockey fan and enjoyed taking Ethan to his first Preds game when he was 5. He was thrilled that it sparked an interest in Ethan to play hockey and absolutely loved watching Ethan play!
Jon was a lifelong Methodist – as his mom would often say, he was destined to be with her naming him after John Wesley. He loved like Jesus. He and his family have been members of First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro for close to 18 years.
Jon is survived by his loving wife, Amber Ann Hickerson; children Emma Grace Hickerson and Ethan Joshua Hickerson; mother Diane Joyce Hickerson; and sister Sara Diane (Matt) Hughes, and many other cherished family members.
Please join us to celebrate his life at First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro on October 25th. Visitation at 11 AM with service at 1 PM and inurnment to follow.
