Carol A. Didinger, 87, of Mt. Vernon passed away peacefully at Gulf Coast Medical Center, Ft. Myers, FL on Friday, March 28, 2025. After a brief illness and with family by her side, Carol has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior and been reunited with the love of her life, Gary W. Didinger, who preceded her in death on January 14, 2008. She was born on July 3, 1937 in Cleveland to Eugene and Mary Lucille (France) Dawson.
Carol was such a beautiful, classy lady who had so much love and compassion for others. She was a very giving person who never hesitated to help others. Jesus has welcomed Carol's beautiful soul and claimed "well done my beautiful daughter; your love and generosity did a lot for many on earth". She was a devout Christian who loved her family deeply. She was the amazing matriarch of the Didinger family and she will be greatly missed.
For many years, Carol played an instrumental part in running the family business, Didinger Crop Service, alongside her husband, Gary and their two sons, Todd and Mike. She cherished the many friendships she made with their loyal customers. Years after she retired, many customers would still ask, "how is Carol doing"? Whomever Carol encountered she made an impact with her genuine, sweet, and kind personality. It was always an honor for her children to be told by others how nice their Mom was or how beautiful she was. Carol had a deep love for her family but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her such great joy.
She was a diehard, loyal OSU football Buckeye fan and she shed many happy tears over the National Championship won this year. Carol hated the winter months in Ohio so she enjoyed being a snowbird during those months in Ft. Myers. Over the years, she formed many friendships with her fellow snowbirds, especially Joanne, Connie and Pat. Another great passion for Carol was her love of animals. She supported many causes to benefit animals in need. She and her husband even adopted two dogs, Happy and Barney, who were found roaming the streets of Mansfield.
Left to cherish Carol's memory are her four children, Debbie (Bill) Geiger of Cincinnati, Nancy (Rodger) Stull of Mt. Vernon, Michael (Wendy) Didinger of Danville, and Todd (Elaine) Didinger of Danville; five special grandchildren, Heath (Kristi) Geiger of Springdale, AR, Chris (Meaghan) Geiger of Cincinnati, Ashley (Nathan) Phillips of Warsaw, Julie Didinger (Anthony Herrmann) of Columbus, and Michaela (Bryant) Didinger-Estrada of Danville; seven very special great-grandchildren, Luke, Jon and Brandon Geiger (their mother, Nicole Geiger), Adam and Cameron Geiger, and Ty and Ryley Phillips; her sister, Cathy Gallwitz of Bladensburg; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Janet Mohn, Marilyn Bell, Vicki Fitzgerald, and Barb Curry (who always made her look so beautiful).
Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Gary W. Didinger; her parents, Eugene and Mary Dawson; two brothers, George Dawson and Kenneth Dawson; step-mother, Bernice Butler; sister/brother-in-laws, Chap and Edna Sheldon, George and Imogene Blaha, Dean Rettig, and Mary Sue Dawson; and her beloved canine companion, Barney.
