LOUDONVILLE: William L. Steele Sr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the age of 81. Les was born in Erie, PA, on August 29, 1944, to Willis F. Steele Sr. and Ada Beatrice Staley.
He was a 1963 graduate of Loudonville High School and married Catharine M. Franks on September 10, 1966.
Les decided to join the State Highway Patrol in 1967 and worked with them for about 8 ½ years. He was also a Marine Corps reservist during the Vietnam War. After leaving the State Patrol, he went to work for the Timken Company. He worked for Timken for 28 years and retired on December 31, 2005.
Les was a competitive spirit. He was very active in sports, supporting the Red Birds with all he had. Les also played softball with the Church league for many years. He had a love of cars, especially the Corvette.
Everything Les did in life was with a level of intensity, and he will be sadly missed by his wife, Catharine, and family.
In addition to his parents, Les was preceded in death by a brother, Willis F. Steele Jr., and a sister, Carol Ann Temple.
Les is survived by his wife, Catharine, and two sons, William L. Steele Jr. and Gregory A. (Janet) Steele. Also, by his five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and his siblings, Elda Louise Steele Boughton and Francis Howard Steele.
A special thank you goes to Whitey Harris and all the guys who had those Saturday morning chats at Harris Automotive in Loudonville, Ohio.
To honor Les's wishes, there will be no services or celebration of Life.
Memorial contributions in Les's memory may be sent to Trinity Community Church, 127 S. Union Street, Loudonville, OH 44842, or Life Care Hospice, 1900 Akron Road, Wooster, Ohio 44961.
