Carol Fasulo Obituary
Carol Janice Fasulo passed peacefully at home in Columbia, MD on June 10, 2024. As in life, she was surrounded by her loving and abundant family. Carol is survived by her lifelong soulmate Albert Joseph Fasulo "Bert." They began their 68-year adventure together in Southington, Connecticut, when Carol was just 14 years old. Ever the trailblazers, Carol and Bert eloped at age 18 and travelled the world, living both abroad and stateside. Their travels took them to countries such as Turkey, England, Japan, Germany, and Italy (to name just a few). With them always were their two children, Albert Joseph Fasulo II (June) and Tinamaria Peck (Mitch).
Carol was a woman of sharp wit and intellect. She was passionate and unwavering in her views, and inspired and impacted many around her. Her insatiable thirst for knowledge was unmatched. Her world travels, knowledge (and opinions) of global affairs and politics, involvement in her communities, and prowess in solving puzzles always left an impression. Carol, wearing her trademark blue gingham apron, was equally known for her phenomenal culinary abilities including her Italian wedding soup, icebox cake, sauce and meatballs, icing cookies, and famous "dingbats."
To her closest family and friends, she was known not only as Carol, but by the moniker she adopted upon her ascent to her esteemed role as grandmother: "Nana." She was deemed the Queen and Matriarch of the ever-expanding Fasulo Stockade. Together with Bert, who assumed the title of Poppy, they formed what could only be described as a power couple prevailing over a tightknit Italian American family. Nana and Poppy forged the foundation for all the children in The Stockade, and shared countless adventures with them, from Italian Sunday dinners, sleepovers, and celebrations at their home in Catonsville (which featured a pool, abundance of land appropriately titled "Nanaland," and her vehicle, the "Nanavan") to their Beach House in Ocean City, Maryland. Nana and Poppy oversaw endless hours of fun with their 6 grandchildren – Micheal Fasulo (Amanda), Nicole Geraty (Mark), Zachary Peck (Julie), Jacqueline Fasulo (Luis), Alexandra Koopman (Zach), and Bradley Fasulo (Sarah). Her strong legacy continues to flourish with four great-grandsons – Ethan, Ryan, and Dylan Geraty, Sebastian Koopman, plus two more great-grandchildren on the way.
Carol was predeceased by her parents Lorenzo and Clementine (DelBuono) Ursone, her beloved brother Harry "Shubbie" Ursone (Elizabeth) and is survived by her adored sister-in-law Lenore George (Keith). In addition, Carol is both predeceased and survived by many loving members of her extended family.
To all who knew, loved, and respected her, Carol, or Nana, was a woman ahead of her time, who "made the trees," who, standing 4'11" in her fluorescent windbreaker, epitomized the emboldened woman, destined to inspire others. She lived life the Nana way, in her own fashion and on her own terms. While she is and will be missed, such a tenacious, stalwart and vibrant woman lives on in her family and friends, and in the countless souls she inspired.
