Carol Anne Hall, age 77, passed away surrounded by family Thursday evening, July 18th of complications from Post-Polio Syndrome. She was born September 28, 1946, to William H. and Frances E. Baker. Carol Anne was adopted and raised by her grandparents, Frances C. and Willis C. Colburn, affectionately known as "Mother and Pa".
Carol Anne grew up in Addison, NY, graduating from Addison Central School, class of 1964. She participated in the marching band playing trombone like many of her family members before her. After high school, she attended the former Geneva School of Nursing and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. During her nursing career, she worked at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital and Corning Hospital before switching careers to and eventually retiring from Corning Community College as Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Students.
Carol Anne married William (Bill) A. Hall on January 17, 1970, after his return from service with the US Army in Vietnam. Theirs was nearly a life-long relationship starting back in elementary school. The two of them, especially after their children were grown and they both retired, were inseparable. Their near daily "adventures" took them all over to do and see many things just to be together.
Carol Anne led a very active life despite many challenges throughout. She survived childhood polio, was in an iron lung and body cast for a significant part of her young life. The polio left her with weaknesses that did not slow her down and many people did not know about. In her early 50's she was given the news of being afflicted with Post-Polio Syndrome and was advised to retire, use a wheelchair, and other steps to prolong her life. Carol Anne's strong work ethic and belief in being helpful and not being a burden wouldn't allow her to stop living her life. With the diagnosis in hand, she still took and completed her Associates Degree in Nursing at Corning Community College, fulfilling a life long desire. Later in life she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Being the strong-willed woman she was, she was a survivor and it hardly slowed her down. During her lifetime, she volunteered with many organizations and instilled that in her children. She sang in the church choir, Painted Post Little League Mother's Club making her awesome Texas Hot Sauce to be sold on Saturdays at the games - which always sold out. She assisted with church day camp, West High Band Chaperone, Literacy Volunteer, Member and EMT with Coopers Plains-Long Acres Fire Department, and served as a Commissioner on the Fire District Board for Coopers Plains-Long Acres Fire District. Bill and Carol Anne also spent many years raising and showing Maine Coon cats.
Carol Anne is survived by her husband of 54 years, her sons W. Todd Hall (Tonya) of Coopers Plains and Daniel of Harrisburg, PA, her very special nieces, "the girls", that she always considered like daughters; Suzette (Peter) Pondillo, Noelle (Chad) Conklin, and Candice (Jason) Tosh. Her brother, William F. (Jesusa) Baker and sister, Joan (William) Wright as well as her grandchildren, Allegra, Aryton, Brandon, and Gabriel. She was predeceased by her parents, grandparents, brother and sister-in-law and best friends David L. and Caroline B. Hall, and sister-in-law Elizabeth L. Hall.
It is her wishes to be cremated and her remains to be buried with her husband Bill's in Addison Rural Cemetery next to her Mother and Pa. A private family service will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carol Anne's name to the Coopers Plains-Long Acres Fire Department, PO Box 21 Coopers Plains, NY 14827 or to an animal rescue charity of your choice is appreciated.
