Carol Gay (Tolliver) Kolp, 94 of Gaylanta Lake, Michigan died peacefully at American House Freedom Place of Roseville on October 10, 2025. She was born on August 12, 1931 to John M. and Sadie (Cook) Tolliver in Democrat, Kentucky. She lost her mother when she was an infant and was raised by her stepmother, Annie (Kaiser) Tolliver and her older siblings. Her family later settled in Detroit, Michigan where she met and married her husband Calvin August Kolp in 1955. The Kolp Family raised two children, Calvin Michael Kolp and David August Kolp. They lived in Roseville and later moved to Fraser until they both retired from Michigan Bell. Carol was a bright and capable lady, supervising over 200 employees in her department. After retirement, she and Calvin became snowbirds living at their Gaylanta Lake home in the summer and Spring Hill, Florida in the winter.
Most of her family and friends called her by her middle name, Gay. She was a great storyteller, especially about the hardships of growing up in Kentucky and Indiana. Gay loved attending church, bible study, and always requesting prayers for the sick. She loved to shop and always found the best bargains. She was a big sports fan, especially the Detroit Tigers. Every year she proudly organized the 4th of July boat parade on Gaylanta Lake. She was a great Euchre card player, always calling “next” after she beat your team. She liked trips to the casinos in Northern Michigan and in Florida and usually came out a winner!
She always said, ‘I’ve had a wonderful life.’
Gay is remembered by her son David A. Kolp, daughter-in-law Casey Kolp, grandchildren David J. (Angela) Kolp, Kristen (Ryan) Kolp-Cueny, and Jerry (Monica) Pardo; great-grandchildren, Angelina, Thomas, Ruby, and Callie; sister, Martha Wininger; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin August; her son, Calvin Michael; granddaughter, Deanna Pardo; as well as her siblings, Lester Tolliver, Helen Douglas, Anna Lee Addison, and Mabel Roberts.
