Carol A. (Nichols) Lafferty, age 83, of Erie passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at her home with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica, NY on June 8, 1942 the daughter of the late William and Marjorie (Knott) Nichols.
After graduating from Penn Hall in Chambersburg, PA, Carol became a buyer with the Boston Store in Utica and was an original employee of the Boston Store at Millcreek Mall. She then enjoyed a long, successful career in banking, with Marine Bank in Erie and Huntington Bank in Ohio and Florida. She worked with Catholic Charities and the American Red Cross in Ohio and more recently enjoyed volunteering at Harding Elementary School. Carol loved to shop, was a big fan of QVC and always excited to find a great deal. She was also fond of dogs, especially her faithful companion for 15 years, her Cavachon 'Cupcake'.
A former competitive figure skater, Carol stayed active and enjoyed many things, but none so much as her family. Her heart was full when her family was near. Her children cherished her just as much and spent many extended vacations having fun and making memories. In the end, Carol's family was at her side as she spoke her last words, "I love you."
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Tony.
Carol is survived by her children Sean Lafferty, wife Joanne of Erie, Ellen Hill, husband Greg of Buford, GA and Amy Hanson, husband Rick of Sleepy Eye, MN; her former husband and good friend James Lafferty of Tallmadge, OH; four grandchildren Ryan Hill, wife Cheney, Emilea Hagaman, husband Ryan, Morgan Bellman and Matthew Bellman; great grandchildren Wren and Callan. She is also survived by a brother William Nichols of Farmington Hills, MI, as well as nieces Chris and Katie Nichols.
Friends are invited to call at St. Jude the Apostle Church 2801 West 6th Street, on Saturday October 18th from 9am until a funeral mass at 11am. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street is assisting with arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.bruggerfuneralhomes.com.
