Carol A. Reitz, 85, of Canton passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2023. She was born April 14, 1937 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Richard and Mable Gloyd.
Carol graduated from Akron Springfield High School in 1955. In 1990, she earned a Bachelor degree in Christian Education from Defiance College.
Carol began her career as the Christian Education Director and Youth Ministry Leader for Good Shepherd UMC. From 1994-1999 she served as chaplain for the University of Akron Ecumenical Ministries and their Police Department before retiring. She was a lifelong member of Family of Faith UMC in Akron serving in many leadership roles. A passionate volunteer, Carol was a Guardian ad Litem for Stark County Family Courts, Canton Calvary Mission Board member and a member of the Friends of the Library.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Reitz and sister, Linda Conley.
Carol is survived by her children, Michael (Karen) Reitz of Wooster, Ohio, Patrick (Christina) of Idyllwild, CA., Timothy (Letty) Reitz of Albuquerque, NM., Lucinda (Will) Owens of Canton, Ohio and Kathleen (Todd) Walstead of Houston, TX; six grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Family of Faith UMC, 800 E. Market St. Akron, Ohio 44305 Friday, February 17 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ronald Shultz officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the celebration of life from 10am to 11am Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements. Please visit www.reedfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Family of Faith Free Lunch Program..
