Pleasant Valley, Carol Ann Whalen Spahn, 77, a lifelong area resident died on November 10, 2025 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born on December 23, 1947 at the former St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. She was the daughter of Thomas and Shirley Carey Whalen. She graduated from local schools and worked for IBM, Poughkeepsie for 36 years, most recently in zSeries Release Management until her retirement in 2010. During her years with IBM, she received many awards and was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. During her retirement years, she enjoyed sharing the lives of her grandchildren as a caregiver.
A lifelong Roman Catholic, she was a communicant of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Poughkeepsie.
She is survived by her husband, Kim Emil Spahn, daughter Heather Shana Spahn Whalen and her husband Michael, granddaughter, Shana Mary, grandson, Aiden Michael of Staatsburgh and daughter Erin Kathleen Spahn of LaGrange. Additionally she is survived by four brothers and their wives: Thomas and Janet Whalen of Florida, Robert and Debbie Whalen of Pleasant Valley, James and Cathey Whalen of Amenia and David and Julie Whalen of Amenia in addition to several nieces and nephews and their families.
Along with her husband, she enjoyed visiting America's many treasured Historical sites throughout their marriage and shared a true love of Country. Always a country girl, she loved exercise and nutrition, and the out doors.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 4pm until 7pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie, New York. A mass of Catholic Burial will be held Friday, November 14, at 10am at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Church in LaGrange, New York, with the burial at St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie to follow.
