Caroline Keehner was called home to our Lord on October 4, 2024 to the waiting arms of her parents. Carrie was born on May 11, 1961 in Postville, Iowa. She lived at home until the age of 14, then moved to the Area Residential Care Center in Dubuque, Iowa. After the death of her mother, Carrie moved to Des Moines in September of 1994, where she lived in the Mosaic Organization Group Home.
A visitation will be held at Iles Westover Chapel on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm with a vigil to begin at 6:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona, Iowa on Monday, October 14, 2024 beginning at 10:00 am with a visitation an hour prior. Interment will follow funeral services at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery.
Carrie defied all medical statistics and lived life well beyond any expectations. She enjoyed being outside, going for car rides, music, and any and every little gadget she could carry around. She continued to amaze those who knew her with what she was able to do in spite of her disabilities.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Lloyd and Jean Keehner; Step-father Robert McGuire; grandparents, Caroline and Walter Keehner and Cecelia and Alex Berns; brother-in-laws, Mark Cullen and Gene Ferguson, and nephew Richard Hauben.
Surviving are brothers and their wives, James (Mary) Keehner, Leigh (Gloria) Keehner; sisters, Jan Hogan, Joanne Ferguson, Jolene Cullen, Dawn (Mike) Reardon; 16 nieces and nephews, 37 great nieces and nephews, and one great-great niece.
We are all so blessed to have been given the opportunity to love and care for someone as pure as the day she was born. Our angel has gone to heaven.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Mosaic Organization at 11141 Aurora Ave. Urbandale, Iowa 50322 or Cornelia de Lange Syndrome Foundation (CdLS) at 30 Tower Lane,#400, Avon, Connecticut 06001.
