Carolyn Sue Dunn, a cherished soul known affectionately as Carolyn to friends and family, departed our world on October 5, 2025, at the age of 84, in her longtime home of Harrisburg, IL. Born on December 10, 1940, in Thompsonville, IL, Carolyn was the treasured daughter of the late Ewell Dearing and Opal Smith.

Carolyn's life was defined by a profound dedication to her loving family and a spirited career in retail sales that spanned several decades. Her presence in the workplace was marked by a warm and welcoming demeanor that left a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike. Her Christian faith was a guiding light throughout her life, giving her strength and comfort in all circumstances.

Widowed by her beloved husband, the late James "Jim" Dunn, Carolyn was a supportive and nurturing mother to her two sons, Danny (Emily) Dunn and Steve (Julie) Dunn. She took immense pride in her role as a grandmother to Sarah Jenkins, Jessica Dunn Lechner, Adam Tate, Blake Tate, Jessica Shires Herrin, Audra Shires Freidman, Cody Shires, and Hillary Shires Hall, as well as a great-grandmother to fourteen great-grandchildren. she was preceded in death by her brother Gerald David Dearing. Through her unwavering support and unconditional love, she cemented herself as a cornerstone of her family's lives.

Carolyn's zest for life and indomitable spirit were evident in her passionate involvement with her family, particularly her grandchildren. Her countless memories created during family gatherings, holidays, and everyday moments have become invaluable treasures that her family will hold dear forever. Her fondness for laughing, sharing stories, and celebrating life's milestones was contagious, and those who knew her felt the warmth of her generous spirit.
