Funeral services for Carolyn Jean Farrell-Moody, 70, of Des Moines, will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona. Family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Lacona. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carolyn's family in care of her son, Joshua Farrell, and will be designated at a later date.
Carolyn Jean Farrell was born October 27, 1954, in Chariton, Iowa at the Yocom Hospital to Mildred Geneva Ohnemus Farrell and Gerald "Jerry" James Farrell Sr. She was raised in the Lacona area and had fond memories of growing up on the farm with her siblings and friends. Her dad had nicknamed her "Pinky" because of her rosy complexion, a nickname that stuck with her. She attended elementary school at Lacona and also attended school in Milo and graduated from Southeast Warren High School in Liberty Center in 1972.
Carolyn worked and raised her family. She was the longest serving employee of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy at Camp Dodge, her career spanned over 35 years beginning in 1984. The work was very satisfying, and her co-workers became good friends.
When you think about Carolyn, you think of her laugh and her love of family. She loved family gatherings and cooking the food for dinners from scratch and of course she loved chocolate. She loved family history and studying genealogy. But it wasn't always blood that made you family, it was her love for her family and friends that made everyone family.
Carolyn passed away suddenly on April 24, 2025, in her son's arms. She will be greatly missed by so many. Surviving are her boys: David Farrell and Joshua Farrell; daughters-in-law: Christine Stocker and Heather Latshaw; 8 grandchildren: Riley, Kyer, Mackenzie, Dravin, Shaylee, Krissia, Trinida, and Kaiden; 2 great grandchildren: Ronnie and Kohen; siblings: Gerald "Jim" (Jeanne) Farrell Jr., Patrick Farrell, Kaye (Cory) Knust; Judy (Roger) Hastings, Merrilynn Harter, Sandi (Mike) Fell, Karen Pullen, Randy (Cindy) Halterman, and Delbert (Marty) Halterman; along with many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Jerry and Mildred Farrell; her step mother, Jewel Halterman; husband, Lawrence Moody in 2011; sister, Shirley Goering; and brother, Bill Halterman.
