Carolyn Dodds Massie

Carolyn Dodds Massie died Monday, May 22, 2023 in Springfield, MO, where she had lived since 1976.
She was born May 4, 1927 in Salem, MO, to Melbourne and Elizabeth Durham Dodds, the fourth child and first girl.
Survivors are daughter Carolyn Hoffman and spouse John, son Edwin Massie and spouse Rick Ruderer, grandson Philip Hoffman and many nieces and nephews.
As she saw it, her main purpose was to raise independent, productive children and support her husband, Ray, who died suddenly in 1975. She and son Edwin, who was 16 at the time, left Salem the next year, following her daughter to Springfield. After several jobs, she landed at Ozarks Food Harvest where she was office manager until she was 69. Although she did not attend college, she knew a lot of stuff and was called often to get trivia answers about baseball, history, music, birds and more... and forget trying to get the best of her at cards or board games. She always won.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray, grandson Paul, siblings David, Paul, Charles, Judith, Edwin, Diana and their spouses and three nephews.
Visitation and services will begin at 11:30 Friday, May 26, at Schweitzer Church, 2747 E. Sunshine St., Springfield, MO.
