Lucy Veronica Embrey, 95, Rogersville, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Cox South Medical Center, Springfield.
She was born on June 21, 1930 in Delphos, Kansas the daughter of the late Eugene and Anna (Groneweller) McKain. She was united in marriage November 3, 1956 to Kenneth Wayne "Red" Embrey. He preceded her in death on February 14, 2025. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Lucy was born and raised in Delphos, Kansas where she lived on the farm and loved helping take care of the animals they raised. She met and married Kenneth "Red" Embrey when she was working as a switchboard operator in Topeka. They had 68 wonderful years together.
She went to work after her children started school at Sherm Lollar Lanes and was their junior bowling coach for a number of years. She loved "her kids" and the trips they took together to various tournaments. She later worked for Underwood Convenience Stores in Sparta and Rogersville and love working in the coolers. She was known as the cooler queen.
She loved being outside and playing with her flower beds. You could always find her sitting on the back deck watching the grandchildren or out by the pond "talking" to her donkey Pedro. She dearly loved her grandchildren and animals. There were never any strays because she fed them all and took them in children and animals.
She is survived by two sons, Dave Embrey and his wife Susan, and Dale Embrey; a daughter, Gina Embrey, seven grandchildren, Kyle and his wife Melissa, Destyn, Noah, Jeremy, Chris, Lacy, and B.J. and his wife Hannah; two great-grandchildren, Hadley and Maverick; a brother-in-law, Clyde Embrey and his wife Betty, a sister-in-law, Ellen Maudena Greichen, and many other relatives and friends.
