Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home - Pauls Valley on Mar. 15, 2025.
Carolyn Carney Pruett was born on November 29, 1934 in McAlester, OK to Frank "Skeet" Carney and Josephine Burleson Carney. Carolyn was the younger sister to Joann, and they were lifelong confidants and best friends. She grew up in Atoka, OK, attended Atoka Public Schools, and was a devoted student of ballet, Scottish Rite (Rainbow), and piano. She also was a faithful member of the Atoka First Baptist Church during her youth.
After graduation, she attended the University of Oklahoma where she met Harry "Buck" Pruett, Jr., and they were married on August 15, 1954. Shortly after being married, Buck was deployed with the USAF to England to serve in the Korean War efforts. While abroad they welcomed their first son, Scott. After their tour with the USAF, they returned stateside and sons Jim and Robert were born soon after. Carolyn was a devoted mother and faithfully raised her children in the First Baptist Church of Pauls Valley where she was also active in many of the children's ministry programs. In her spare time she enjoyed crafting, genealogy, collecting her many "treasures", shopping, and spending time with her family.
Carolyn spent her professional life sharing her gift for storytelling and love for reading with others. She was a pioneer for the Garvin County Library System as one of the original "Book Mobile" librarians that traveled the Garvin County area bringing books to rural school children. Later she served as the librarian at Southern Oklahoma Resource Center and head librarian for the Wynnewood Library. Her summer reading programs were the highlight of the summer for so many of Garvin County's children. Her dedication to her community, and service to others was also evident through her participation in Mothers Club, DAR, PEO and many other organizations throughout the years.
After Buck's passing in 1998, Carolyn remarried Glenn Miller of Wynnewood, OK. They shared a deep love for travel and adventure and toured the country until Glenn's passing when she moved to Norman, OK, where she again found herself sharing her gifts as a docent at the Sam Noble Museum. In 2013 she moved to Salina, KS where she resided until her passing on March 11, 2025.
