Carroll Paul Toal, Jr., 92, of Windsor, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023 at home. His humor, kindness, generosity, and love will be missed most of all.
Born January 29, 1931 in Monmouth, IL, son of the late Carroll P. Toal, Sr and Bernice (Shunick) Toal, Carroll attended High school in Monmouth and earned his bachelor's degree from Monmouth College. He proudly served with the US Army during the Korean War. After his move to Connecticut, he worked many years with Travelers Insurance, then for Citi Group as an Insurance Claim Examiner. He was a parishioner of St. Damien of Molokai Parish – St. Gabriel Church, Windsor, where he cantered and was a member of the Good Shepherd Choir.
Carroll's first passion was always music and the performing arts. He wowed countless audiences with his stunning voice, from Monmouth College to The Vatican. He held starring roles with theater groups across the country, and brought the house down soloing with the Travelers choir at the Bushnell Theater in Hartford. His zeal for music is carried on by his four grandchildren. He enjoyed seeing them perform, and loved singing with them most of all. His renditions of many songs including "I'll Be Seeing You" and "Danny Boy" will be missed by many.
Carroll was a voracious reader and an (old) movie watcher, retaining an incredible depth of knowledge on countless subjects from the thousands of books he read. His passion for trains and all things railroad was passed on from his father and grandfather, both of whom worked for the railroad.
Carroll will be missed by his three children, Laura Toal-Jamroga of Windsor, Carroll P. Toal, III and wife, Sheila, of Windsor, Jonathan P. Toal and wife, Cindy, of High Point, NC; two sisters, Kathleen Wagner of Missoula, MT, Ann Toal of Monmouth, IL; a brother, John C. Toal of Monmouth, IL; and four grandchildren, Oliver Toal, Charlotte Barisano, Anna Griffing, and Caroline Toal. He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond T. Toal.
His family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, from 5-7 PM at Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Damien of Molokai Parish- St. Gabriel Church, 379 Broad St., Windsor, followed by military honors.
