Casey Purser Obituary

Casey was born on December 6, 1999 in Atlanta, Georgia. Casey studied Public Policy at Georgia State University ("GSU"). Casey was anticipating a job offer from United Campus Workers. Casey was an unrelenting advocate for LGBTQ rights, immigrant rights, labor rights and class solidarity. Casey was very active in student government at Georgia State University including participating in GSU Student Government Association, Alliance at GSU, GSU chapter of United Campus Workers of Georgia, the GSU chapter of the Young Democratic Socialists of America and Marxist Unity Group. Casey was passionate about helping others in need and worked to help the homeless, provided event support for the GSU Center for Leadership in Disability and a peer advisor for Planned Parenthood Generation Action at GSU.
Casey was preceded in death by fiancée, Melanie M. Jeanty: maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Billy James Durham (Peggy Jean Brown); paternal grandfather, Robert A. Purser, Sr. and grandmother, Barbara L. Thompson.
Casey is survived by parents, Paula Durham Purser and Robert A. and Kimberly T. Purser; siblings, Anna Marie Purser (partner -Kyle Nunn) and Jack Winn; paternal grandparents, Susan J. Honeycutt and Curtis C. Thompson; Aunt and Uncle, Mr. and Mrs. James Kinnard (Lori Durham); Niece, Jessie Jean Nunn.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Peachtree Corners Presbyterian Church in Peachtree Corners, Georgia, on July 12, 2025 at 11:00am. Visitation for family and friends will be at 10:00am. The service will be presided over by Rev. John C. Dorr, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, we ask instead that you make a donation in honor of Casey to the Atlanta Mission (www.atlantamission.org) or the Bonclarken Conference Center (www.bonclarken.org/donate/).
