Kitty Flannery lived a faith-filled, long life to 97. She gathered her strength from her Scranton, PA roots as the daughter of Will and Catherine Sullivan and sister to John and Helen (Cassebaum). While in Scranton, Nativity Church and Marywood College nurtured her love of learning and Big Band music. Scranton brought her together with the love of her life, Frank X. Flannery as they attended first through twelfth grade together. When they married, Kitty left her Home Economics teaching position, and together they built a family. What builders they were; they had eight children!
Kitty enjoyed her faith, family, and friendships immensely. Whether she was playing cards, sewing, watching Jeopardy, or traveling, she shared her "Bloom where you're planted" positivity with everyone she met. She often said she weathered her oldest son's, Fran, death and her husband's early death through faith, family, and acceptance of God's plan.
Professionally, she enjoyed sharing her knowledge as a nutrition educator. After retiring to N. Myrtle Beach, SC, she blossomed through many clubs and activities centered around Our Lady Star of the Sea Church and the beach for thirty years.
In her 90s, Kitty decided to move back to Pennsylvania and spent her last years in Fort Washington Estates enjoying their care. She had her days brightened by visits and calls from her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Kitty's wit, intelligence, warmth, kindness, and generosity are gifts she shared. Her greatest gift was her love of prayer. Her surviving children, Jeanne, Kay, Judy, Bill, Joe, Terri, and Grace request in lieu of flowers, please send a prayer for someone in need and one of thanksgiving for her beautiful life.
Kitty's Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 12 PM at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 33 Conwell Avenue, Maple Glen, PA 19002 where the family will celebrate her life from 11 to 11:45 with Words of Remembrance at 11:45 before the 12:00 noon Mass. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham.
