Danville - Catherine Jean "Kay" (Hammond) Stimpert, 82, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Danbury of Mount Vernon.
Kay was born in Danville on April 19, 1942. She was the daughter of Dale and Wava (Workman) Hammond. She was a majorette in high school, and even continued twirling into her 70s. She worked in the family business for decades, starting as a clerk at Hammond's Supermarket and then owned and operated Dale's Cardinal with her siblings starting in 1983. She was a great cook and seamstress, and was always dressed to the T. She was a former "Rainbow Girls" member and also very active in Euchre Club, and loved going to the casino.
She is survived by her four daughters, Deb (Dan) Colopy, Diana (Mike) Endsley, Kathie Stimpert, and Tammie (John) Thorpe; her son, Larry (Mona) Stimpert; 14 grandchildren, Dan (Ginny) Colopy, Bessie (Kyle) Cline, Ben (Alizabeth) Colopy, and Brittany Colopy, Kelly (Steven) Tabor, Matthew (Alexandra) Endsley, and Sarah (Nate) Lawson, Clinton (Stephanie) Weckesser, Larry (Kathy) Weckesser, and Heather (Mark) Crane, Kyle (Candy) Thorpe and Julie Thorpe, and Josh (Alexis) Stimpert, and Jordan (Rachel) Stimpert; 35 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren, with two more expected; brothers, John (Sue) Hammond, Scott (Aimee) Hammond, and Mike (Jean) Hammond; and many nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Larry, and her sister, Linda Parrish.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 5, at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Patrick Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Workman Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 5-8:00 Wednesday evening.
Memorial donations can be made to the Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District, PO Box 526 Danville, 43014.
