NAPA, CA- Thomas Edward Dawson, age 70, of Napa California, passed away peacefully at Kaiser Vallejo on May 30th, 2025. Born in San Francisco on July 18, 1954, Tom lived a full and meaningful life defined by hard work, generosity, and deep love for his family.
Tom was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Wilfrid and Lorine Dawson. He is survived by his devoted wife, Betty Rollins, and his daughters and son-in-laws: Renee and Michael Trosky, and Michelle and Philip Hamilton. Tom’s legacy lives on through his grandchildren—Kyle & Tori (with five great-granddaughters), Devin and Erin Trosky, and Jackson, Lauren, and Jordan Hamilton. He is also lovingly remembered by his sister and brother-in-law, Jeannie and Ray Gonzales, as well as nieces Crystal Gonzales, Danielle and Sean McNaboe, and Randi and Jeff Lynch.
Tom earned an Associate Degree and numerous automotive certifications, which fueled a 34-year career as a skilled and respected car mechanic—30 of those years at San Francisco Honda. A lifelong 49ers fan, Tom also had a passion for travel and adventure, sharing countless cross-country road trips with Betty. He was an avid bocce player (and frequent winner), loved RV camping with friends from the Elks and SIRS Clubs, and enjoyed many poker nights at the Elks Club, where he proudly served as a trustee for nine years.
Tom was a dedicated small business owner, running a cherished family Christmas tree business for over 44 years—including Don’s Trees in Novato and, more recently, Steve’s Trees in Napa. He embodied the spirit of Christmas year-round through his generosity, joy, and commitment to family traditions.
Tom will be remembered for his warm heart, quiet strength, and enduring kindness. Whether helping others, treating his grandkids to ice cream, or simply lending a hand, Tom lived a life rooted in love and service.
Interment will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025 in New Castle Cemetery, with Dorse Davis officiating. Fischer Funeral Home is handling local arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Tom’s honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
