Catherine "Kay" Walling was an incredible human being who died unexpectedly, yet peacefully on January 16, 2023 in Waterbury, CT. Kay was born to Joseph and Cecelia Sendgick in Olean, New York before moving to Rhode Island. Kay graduated St. Mary's Academy-Bayview in Rhode Island in 1965 before graduating the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing in 1968. She moved to Connecticut the same year and worked proudly as a Registered Nurse until she passed-over 55 years. She began her nursing career at Waterbury Hospital and worked at Apple Rehab in Watertown at the time of her passing.
Kay was born on March 5, 1947 and married G. Hall Walling who passed away in 2011. She had two step-children Kendra (Walling) Schroeder and Stuart Walling. Kay is survived by Kendra and her husband Richard and her daughter-in-law Margaret Walling.
Kay was a fun-loving, free spirit with a heart of gold. She had an out-going friendly personality with a warm smile who made friends everywhere she went and spent her free time doing things she loved. She was an avid quilter, photographer, and wine aficionado. She traveled yearly to Cape Cod, and looked forward to adventures to new places like the trip she took to Italy. She enjoyed celebrating her Polish ancestry and traditions, and was also an active member of the First Congregation Church in Waterbury, CT.
Kay loved experiencing the world, trying new things and was generous with her time like traveling across Connecticut in wintertime to be Mrs. Claus, something she did for the past few years. Kay was always up for a good time.
Most of all Kay loved being "Grammy Kay." The light of her life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren she had at the time of her passing. Kay couldn't go anywhere without telling someone how proud she was of them and showing them a picture.
Kay was loved by many dear friends and co-workers, and she will be dearly missed by her many grandchildren Jeremy D'Amico, Chris D'Amico, Stuart Walling II, Spencer Walling and their spouses Tina D'Amico, Alyssa D'Amico, and Kelly Brophie. Kay's great-grandchildren Amelia Walling, August Walling, Atlas D'Amico, Luke D'Amico, and Nash D'Amico will miss her warm and loving hugs.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Steet, Waterbury, when relatives and friends may visit with the Walling family. Loving-kindness is always welcome, and it only takes a moment to offer a message of condolence, words of comfort, or share a memory with the family and friends of someone important to you. Please visit the funeral home's tribute page at www.caseyfunerals.com to write a message. However, if you are able, attending the service is a thoughtful and caring way to show your support.

Dear Kendra and family; Just learned of Kays passing and want to extend my condolences to all of you. I worked with Kay for so many years at Waterbury Hospital and have such fond memories of our times together working. Such a talented lady who shared her beautiful home and crafts with staff hosting many Christmas parties and showers. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May she rest in peace. I am so saddened to learn of Kay´s passing several months ago. Kay and I have a long history having grown up together in Riverside, Rhode Island, attended and graduated from Bay View Academy together and then both going on to graduate from Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing. At that point, I remained in RI to pursue my nursing career while Kay moved on to a life in Connecticut. We did not have the opportunity to see one another as often after that, but always reconnected at all the class reunions. It was wonderful to be able to catch up on all our news. Kay especially spoke so proudly of her vast family members as well as her travels and to my amazement, her on going work experience well after most of us had retired! Kay left this life way too soon, but I know her memory will live on through her family, friends, classmates, and co-workers. You will be greatly missed, my friend, rest in peace for eternity.

I also would like to say how sorry I am about Kay's passing. I knew Kay from Nursing school and we always caught up at reunions. For our 50th, she brought cookies in the shape of our caps and had one for everyone.

I was so shocked and saddened to learn of Kay's passing. We were classmates in nursing school and would see Kay at our Florida mini-reunions every spring. We could always count on her to get good photos. On behalf of the class of 1968, please accept our condolences. We will be grieving for a wonderful person, a dependable friend and a gift to her family. She will truly be missed.

She was always a kind and caring person. We had planned to get together when I came for a visit to Connecticut. My condolences to her family.
