Donna Walling (Schiefer), a longtime resident of
Hudson, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on April 28, 2025. Her departure has created a profound emptiness in the lives of her beloved family, her many cherished friends, and the countless individuals whose paths she brightened throughout her life's journey.
Born in the historic town of Reading, Pennsylvania, Donna was the cherished daughter of the late Harry and Joyce Schiefer (Hottenstein). Her life unfolded across several locations, including Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Boca Raton, and Lakeland in Florida, before ultimately finding her home and establishing deep roots in
Hudson, Ohio.
Donna's life was deeply intertwined with that of her devoted husband of 53 years, Don Walling. Their enduring companionship and mutual support formed a lifelong constant, a testament to their deep and abiding love. She is also survived by her two children, Brian Walling and Melissa Rey, both of whom she adored beyond measure and supported unconditionally in all their endeavors. Her three grandchildren, Shelby Walling, Emily Rey, and Sophie Rey, held a special place in her heart. They were the lights of her life, and she cherished every precious moment spent in their company, creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter. Donna is also lovingly remembered by her brothers, Eric (Barbara) Schiefer and Alex (Alma) Schiefer and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
At the heart of Donna's world was her family, and her devotion to her children was immeasurable. She poured her energy and love into supporting their educational pursuits and extracurricular activities. Whether she was enthusiastically serving as a homeroom mother, guiding young minds as a den mother, diligently organizing school events, or volunteering her time at countless extracurricular gatherings, Donna's presence was a constant source of comfort and inspiration. Her unwavering commitment to her children's well-being and their growth was evident in every action she took.
Beyond her dedication to her family, Donna committed many fulfilling years to working within the Hudson Local Schools system. There, her inherent kindness touched the lives of her colleagues. Her genuine care fostered a nurturing and supportive environment within the school community, leaving a lasting and positive impact that will be felt for years to come.
Donna possessed a keen intellect and a deep appreciation for her heritage. As an avid genealogist, she found immense joy in the intricate process of exploring her family's roots. With meticulous care and unwavering curiosity, she delved into historical records, piecing together the stories of her ancestors and forging connections with her family's past. Her passion for genealogy not only enriched her own life but also served to uncover and preserve cherished family traditions, ensuring that these stories would continue to inspire and connect her loved ones for generations to come. Through genealogy she gained many friendships. She enjoyed not only her research but conferences, meetings and treasured trips with her friends.
A celebration of Donna's beautiful life and her enduring legacy will be held at Busch-Romito Funeral Home, 19 E. Main St (on the square),
Hudson, OH, on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m with a service commencing at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery,
Hudson, OH. All who knew and loved Donna are warmly invited to attend and share their cherished memories of her.
In lieu of flowers, Donna's family has requested that donations be directed to the Parkinson Foundation (Parkinson.org), a cause that she supported in loving memory of her father, Harry Schiefer. Through these thoughtful contributions, Donna's spirit of compassion and her dedication to service will continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
