Cecilia 'Cele' Myrtle Spalding, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away November 13, 2024. Cele was the seventh of thirteen children, born November 4, 1938, to Gerald David Spalding and Myrtle Gertrude Hays at the family farm in Indian Creek, Missouri, where she grew up in a loud, joyful home.
Cele was a graduate of St. Stephen's High School in Indian Creek. After graduation, she moved to Hannibal, where she worked for the telephone company. But soon, the family farm called to her again-she moved home to Indian Creek, driving a farm truck while her dad picked corn. Eventually, Cele met and married William Randall Mudd, Jr. and moved to Monroe City, where she had four children and spent the remainder of her life. Cele started working for Diemakers, Inc. in 1960, and spent many years as the Director of Human Resources. She also served as the Executive Director at The Industrial Development Authority of the County of Monroe before her retirement.
Cele loved music and the arts; she founded the Monroe City Arts Council and was a dedicated member of the Monroe City Singers. She was known for her strong will, sharp humor, and unwavering love and support for her family and community.
Survived by: sons William 'Trey' Randall Mudd III (Dede) and Monte Gerard Mudd, daughter Sarah Hart Mudd (Darla), four grandchildren, Janson Mudd, Lauren Keel, Katie Belflower, and Emily Mudd, two sisters Dorthy Kern and Barbra Quinn and one brother Matthew 'Matt' Spalding, and her "outlaws"; Janie Spalding, Peggy Spalding, Sandy Spalding, Marsha Spalding, and Jan Spalding. She is preceded in death by her parents, son Jason Wilfred Mudd, siblings Geraldine 'Gerry' McNally, Patricia 'Pat' Shoemaker, George Spalding, James 'Albert' Spalding, David Anthony Spalding, Sarah 'Sally' Holcomb, Lawrence 'Larry' Spalding, Robert 'Harold' Spalding, and Daniel 'Danny' Spalding, Janson's mother, Jan Behring Thompson, and her "outlaws;" Herb McNally, Bill Kern, Bob Shoemaker, Eva Jo Spalding, Don Holcomb, and Tim Quinn. A visitation will be held at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Indian Creek, MO on Monday November 18, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial, concelebrated by Fr. Greg Oligschlaeger and Fr. Michael Quinn will follow at 11:00a.m. Burial will be immediately after Mass at St. Stephen Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Monroe City Nutrition Center.
