Cecilia E. Stiles

Cecilia E. Stiles, age 71 of Painted Post, NY passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at Guthrie Corning Hospital.
Born on May 9, 1953 in Corning, NY, she was the daughter of the late Mario and Cecilia (Luiz) Gomes. Cecilia graduated Corning East High school, class of 1971 followed by the Rochester Business Institute, class of 1973. She married her junior high sweetheart, James E. Stiles on April 5, 1975 at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Corning. He predeceased her on August 8, 2013. She worked for Corning Inc. both in insurance and logistics, with over 45 years of service.
Cecilia will be remembered for her boundless kindness, generosity, and selflessness. A true people person, she never hesitated to strike up a conversation. Always eager to check in on friends, family, and even acquaintances, making everyone feel valued and heard. Her love for softball was a lifelong passionfirst as a dedicated player in her youth and beyond high school, and later as a coach, guiding young athletes with the same warmth and encouragement she shared in every aspect of her life. Above all, she cherished her family, especially her sisters, children and grandchildren, with whom she spent endless hours talking, playing, laughing, and making precious memories. She found pure joy in these moments, just as she did in sharing stories and keeping up with the lives of those she cared about. Her love, kindness, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
Cecilia is survived by her children: Shannon (Eric) Rappa of Minneola, FL, Kristopher (Tami) Stiles of Buffalo, NY; grandchildren: Ashlynn, Aryn and August Rappa and Kira Stiles; sisters: Linda (Bob) Flynn of Syracuse, NY, Mary Ann (Tom) Stamilio of Punta Gorda, FL; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, March 16, 2025 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Carpenter's Funeral Home 14 E. Pulteney St., Corning, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025 at 9:30 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 155 State St. Corning, NY, Fr. Matthew Walter officiating.
