CHANEY BOWTHORPE Chaney K. Bowthorpe, age 44, of Neola, UT, passed away on December 30, 2023 after having bravely fought colon cancer for 3 ½ years. He was born on January 31, 1979, to Wade and Ellen Johnson Bowthorpe in Vernal, UT. Chaney worked as a welder and machinist, alongside his parents, at the family business, W.E. Machine & Welding, for nearly 30 years. He was a talented welder and believed in doing things right the first time. Chaney married Andie Lee Jones on April 30, 2011, they later divorced. Chaney and Andie brought two beautiful children into the world; a daughter, Rulynn and a son, Karson. His children were everything to him, truly the light in his eyes. He considered them his greatest accomplishment. Chaney has always been an avid outdoorsman. He has loved to hunt since he was big enough to hold a gun. He was passionate about passing on his knowledge and love of hunting to anyone who expressed interest. If he didn't have a tag, he was happy to go along and live the hunt vicariously through others. He held a Pope & Young archery record for pronghorn, and had a variety of his trophies mounted. He loved to be outdoors in all seasons, from fishing in the summer, to hunting rabbits and trapping in the winter. Chaney also enjoyed playing ball. He played baseball when he was young. Then volunteered as assistant coach to the Union High School Softball team with his aunt, Coach Loa Kay "Bink" Bowthorpe. He played league softball for years and developed some wonderful relationships there. As his health became an issue, he tried his hand at Cornhole. He traveled to play in tournaments and often won. Many regarded him as the best bagger in the Uintah Basin. Despite playing through surgeries and chemo, he managed to place in the top 100 players of the Mountain South Conference, comprising Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. He was lovingly known to his softball and cornhole family as "Chicken Bob." Chaney was very family oriented and hard working. He loved spending time with his kids, parents and siblings. He was "Uncle Chaney" to just about everyone. Those who knew him described him as funny, generous, kind, and compassionate. He didn't hesitate to stop and help anyone that needed it or reach out to those he saw struggle. He was a devoted father, a loving son and brother, and loyal friend. Chaney is survived by his children, Rulynn and Karson; Andie, the mother of his children; his parents, Wade and Ellen Bowthorpe; siblings Camille (Caleb) Carner, Candice (Derek) Broome, Cadene (Christopher) Zihlke, Cade (Thebbie) Bowthorpe; sixteen nieces and nephews; and his friend for life, Travis Williams. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rulon & Elva Bowthorpe, and Larry & Alberta Johnson; and his adopted brother, Jordan Westfall. His final message to the people in his world was, "I love everybody. Thanks for everything." Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Neola Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There will be a viewing at the church on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and from 12:-12:45 p.m. on Saturday. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park. Condolences may be shared at www.hullingermortuary.com
