Charla DeAnne Clunk (Young), age 78, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026, at the Marion General Hospital. Charla was born on October 7, 1947, in
Seattle, Washington to her late parents, Charles I. Young and Delores M. Jenks. Her husband, Robert Clunk, would meet her through mutual friends while playing Euchre and they would eventually get married in Columbus, OH, on July 2, 1966. They would spend 60 loving years together.
Charla graduated from Brookhaven High School in 1965. One of her first jobs was working for a video store in Prospect and later cleaning for Cummins Facility Services. She was a city girl turned farm woman. She would work as a Farm Service Agent for the Department of Agriculture for 22 years before retiring. Charla started into her farm life by helping her family run a small farm for many years. While on the farm, she learned to can, cook, and bake. She also picked up a love of crafting things like sewing and knitting. Charla knew how to laugh and have a good time. Traveling and road trips were always something she looked forward to. She loved to travel with her good friend, Carol, on many occasions. She enjoyed sheep shows and raising Hampshire sheep. Charla was never one for the spotlight. She loved to volunteer and work behind the scenes. She was a huge part of the Elgin Music Boosters for many years and was an auxiliary member of the VFW Post 7201 (Rt. 4). She was a 4-H Advisor and volunteer for over 30 years and a crucial part in shaping the Marion County Sheep Improvement Association as it is today. For over 40 years Charla could be found at The Lamb Stand during the Marion County Fair grilling up lamb patties and gyros. Above everything, she truly loved her family. Charla took pride in being the best mom and grandma she could be by always being there for them and slipping in little life lessons when you least expected it. Charla is proceeded in death by her parents, siblings, Tom Young and Linda Jones, In-Laws, Dick (Carolyn) Clunk, and her nephew, Shiloh.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Robert Clunk, their children; Kate (Phil) Craycraft, Bryan (Angie) Clunk, and Jennifer (Anthony, Jr.) Franklin, grandchild, Zoë Franklin, In-Laws, Mary Catherine (Gary) Nuccio, her nephews and nieces, Jesse and Rahama Nuccio, Larry and Allen Clunk, Dustin, Jonathan, Paul Thomas, and Eric, her good friends, Carol (Tom) Wise, Saretta and Griffon Holdcroft, and numerous other friends and relatives.
The Clunk family would like to invite all of Charla's friends and relatives to join them for calling hours on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Boyd Funeral Home. The funeral service will start at 1 p.m. There will be a procession to and an internment service, at the Green Camp Cemetery immediately following the service. Pastor Jim Endsley will be officiating all services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks all donation to be made out to the Marion County Sheep Improvement Association.
