Charlene Butler Morrow passed away on August 9, 2024. New adventures lie before her in God's glorious universe. She was born in Oklahoma City, OK on April 5, 1940. She was the second of two children and dearly loved by her parents, Helen Butler and Willoughby Van Buren Butler.
On January 9, 1960, Charlene married Veldon Morrow. They were married for 59 years. As newlyweds they moved to El Paso, TX where Veldon was stationed in the army. After Veldon's service, they returned to Edmond, OK where they devotedly raised their two daughters.
Charlene was an avid reader and lifelong learner. She took college classes in the evening for many years and received her B.A. in 1993 and her Master's degree in Creative Writing in 1998 from the University of Central Oklahoma. She was eager to share her love of learning with others, including the young children she tutored in Oklahoma City after retirement.
She was a true creative – imbuing life with beauty through her painting, wood working, writing, sewing, and interior decorating. As an artist and entrepreneur, she took over her Dad's business and transformed it into Charlene Morrow Design & Interiors, working alongside Veldon to install draperies. She brought kindness, warmth, and color into every space she entered.
She was also a do-er. From rising early to set the table before large family gatherings, to teaching her grandkids to sew pillows and purses using repurposed drapery materials, to supporting a chef prepare meals for the community in her final year of life, Charlene loved to do what needed to be done to make others feel well cared for.
Charlene had a profound respect for all faiths. She was a truth seeker, an active participant in the Interfaith Alliance of Oklahoma, and a steadfast member of the Urantia Book Society of Oklahoma, hosting meetings with Veldon throughout their lives in their home. She loved to travel and journeyed all over the world sharing the story of the Urantia Book and embracing the opportunity to meet and share meals with people of diverse cultures and languages.
She loved her family deeply, and one of her greatest joys came from being a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her two daughters, Julie (Sven) Sykes and Vicky (Todd) Wedel, and her beloved grandchildren, Steven Sykes, Jessie Sykes, Kiki (Michael) Burgdorf, Hannah (Jerod) McCarter, and Emalee Wedel.
A Memorial will be held at Crawford Family Funeral Service, 610 NW 178th St., Edmond, OK 73012, with a reception to follow, on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 10:00AM.
