Charlene Tobey, 78, passed away on August 17, 2025, peacefully at her home surrounded by her family in Menasha, WI. She was born on August 20, 1946, in Neenah, WI, the daughter of Grant “Doc” Hottenstein and Dorothy Eileen (Miller) Corey. Charlene devoted her life to raising her family. She was the devoted wife to Thomas Anton Tobey married on April 16, 1966. Thomas preceded her in death on October 14, 2001. Charlene was a talented crafter, wonderful cook, and avid puzzler. Her green thumb was unparalleled as she enjoyed gardening and being outside. She was lovingly known as “Nana” to her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Charlene is survived son Eric Tobey; daughter Rebecca (Ron) Bucholtz grandchildren: Kayla (Ryan) Daczyk, Cheryl (Josh) Lannoye, Chelsea Corey, Zachary (Amber) Doering and great grandchildren: Blayke, Olivia, Rylen, Charlie, Aria, Maya, Jayde, Nova, Serenity, Elric, Lance and Leona. In addition, she is survived by her sister Melody Corey; brother Brad (Paula) Hottenstein; Sister-in-law Donna Ver Voort as well as many other relatives and friends.
Charlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Tobey, her loving bestie, Barb Bucholtz, and brother-in-law, Kenneth Ver Voort.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Friday August 22, 2025, at Wichmann Funeral Home, Laemmrich Chapel, 312 Milwaukee Street, Menasha. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home from 9:00am until the time of service. She will be laid to rest at St Mary’s Cemetery, Menasha.

Charlene took an active role in the Briarwood Cottages retirement community. As they lovingly called her Charlie, her family would like to thank her friends for the love and support they gave during her 10 years of residency. Additionally, Charlene’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate and dedicated team at ThedaCare Hospice for the exceptional care provided to Charlie in her final days. And finally, to Kayla, her beloved granddaughter (who was so lovingly raised by Charlene), thank you for being Nana’s rock.
