Charles Marion Abney Sr., age 79, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away on September 9, 2025.
Charles was born in Floyd County on August 29, 1946, and was the son of the late James Marion Abney and the late Viola Gilstrap Abney. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James Robert (Roddy) Abney.
Prior to his retirement, Charles was employed at Georgia State Finance & Investment Commission, Lockheed Martin, Atlanta Carpenters Local 225, and owned his own construction company and home inspection company. He also proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968. During his military service, he fought in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968.
Survivors include his loving wife and fishing partner of 59 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Harper Abney; his son, Charles "Chuck" Marion Abney Jr. (Karen); his grandchildren, Blake Abney (Mackenzie), and Bryant Abney; his sister, Brenda Joan Hughes (Gene); his brother, Michael Abney (Carole); his grand dog Tanner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A graveside service will be held for Charles on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 2:30 P.M. at Rome Memorial Park with Rev. Robert Vines officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be John Peoples, Joe Peoples, Ken Peoples, Joe McCoy, Blake Abney, and Bryant Abney.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 13, 2025, prior to the graveside service from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.
