Charles Addington

The family of Charles Addington will celebrate his life of 76 years at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel. His family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance immediately following the service, from 11:30 to 12:30 at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. He passed on Friday, December 17, 2021. On January 14, 1945, Charles Edward was born to Chester Glyndon and Ottie Zae Addington in Phillips, TX. He married Alicia Williams on August 12th, 1967 at the Ford Chapel of the First Baptist Church, Lubbock, TX. Charles was a proud graduate of Lubbock High School class of 1963. Following High School, he attended Texas Tech University and was a member of the Choir and Orchestra. After they united Alicia and Charles both began careers with the Whitharral School District where Charles was the band director and drama coach. In 1975, Addington left the school system to establish a private business doing interior fashion and design. Addington received his call in 1990 and left the private business to serve as a minister and began his education at the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. Charles graduated with his Master of Theology in 1993, while serving a two-point charge at Graham Chapel and Wilson, TX. Charles was ordained into the United Methodist Church in 1993. After graduation and his ordination, he served the congregation of Crossroads UMC in Lubbock until 1996. Following that, he moved to Roscoe, TX, and served that community from 1996 until 2002. Addington then served Wellington UMC until 2006, when he went to his last charge at Brownfield UMC until 2008. Addington continued to serve after retiring from the United Methodist Church by serving the Salvation Army as the Regional Director of North Texas until his retirement in 2018. Although having to have oxygen and not being able to continue working, Charles continued to serve by playing the organ and piano at the Corps for the Salvation Army church services.

Survivors include his wife, Alicia Addington; their children, Charles II and wife Louanne Addington, Christopher and wife Elizabeth Addington; grandchildren, Chase and wife Britanny Addington, Ashley and Ky Houchin, Cason James Addington; great-grandchildren, Carter Lee Addington, Kaybri Jo Houchin, and Krew Wayne Houchin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Chester Glyndon Addington, mother, Ottie Zae Addington.
