Charles Blake Obituary
Charlie was born in Canandaigua and was the son of Alton "Doc" and Mary "Polly" (Roth) Blake. He attended Canandaigua schools and was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy, class of 1980. He earned an associate degree in ornamental horticulture at FLCC in 1987 and earned a bachelor's degree from Cornell University in plant sciences in 1989. Charlie formerly worked at Miller Nurseries, Bristol Mountain and had his own landscaping business. He had been working at FF Thompson Hospital for the last 24 years as groundskeeper of plant operations.
Charlie was a volunteer and board member at the Granger Homestead Society and was a Red Cross blood donor. He enjoyed paddleboarding, golf, skiing, mountain biking, being outdoors and spending time at Blake Acres on Canandaigua Lake. Charlie was an avid home gardener and he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Friends may call Friday, May 31, from 4-7pm, at Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. His memorial service will be held Saturday, June 1, at 10am, at Crosswinds Wesleyan Church, 3360 Middle Cheshire Road, Canandaigua. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Granger Homestead Society, 295 N. Main St., Canandaigua, NY 14424 or FF Thompson Foundation, In Memory of Charles Blake, 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua, NY 14424. Condolences may be offered at www.johnsonkennedy.com.

I only knew Charlie for about 2 years, but within a very short time after meeting him, he endeared himself fully. Charlie was a man of intelligence and humility. A rare combination in people these days. He could tell you what you needed to know in a way that was easy to understand, and never made you feel like you were being talked down to. I honestly wish I'd gotten to know him better. He was always the first guy to check on you if you were having a rough day, and he always had a lighthearted smile to share with you.

Charlie, I will always remember the fun you inspired me to have while at work. Never to take myself to seriously and to remember to slow down and "Don´t chase the Ducks!" It was such a pleasure to work for you and to get to know you. You will be missed by so many.

It was a honor to work early days with Charlie at Bristol Mtn and later at Thompson. Everything Charlie did was with dedication and professionalism. We did have laughs over beers mainly talking our day at work. RIP Charlie. Mary Ellen
