Charles R DePalmo Sr.

Charles R. DePalmo Sr., a cherished patriarch, veteran, and engineer, passed away on May 29, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on October 23, 1932, in New Castle, Pennsylvania to Albert and Thelma DePalmo, Charles lived a life marked by dedication to family, country, and profession.
Charles set down his roots in New Castle where his journey began. His early life there was the foundation for a man of strong character and intellect. Charles proudly served his nation as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged for his valiant service. His commitment to education led him to earn a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Youngstown State University, paving the way for a successful career.
In the professional sphere, Charles made his mark as a mechanical engineer for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Through his work, he played a vital role in shaping the landscapes of homes and communities.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Charles's family was his greatest pride and joy. He is survived by his loving sons, Charles "Chuck" DePalmo Jr. and Jeffrey DePalmo, his devoted daughters, Nancy Walker and Marcia Swartz, and his adoring 13 grandchildren, who were his heart's delight. Though preceded in death by his beloved wife, Loretta DePalmo, who passed away in 2019, and his sons, Michael and David DePalmo, the legacy they built together remains a testament to a life full of love and commitment.
Charles's later life was spent in Old Bridge, New Jersey, where he continued to indulge in his fondness for Sudoku puzzles, a hobby that not only entertained him but also kept his mind as sharp as ever. More than anything, he cherished the moments spent with his grandchildren, each one treasuring their special bond with their grandfather.
As we bid farewell to Charles, we reflect on a life well-lived-full of courage, wisdom, and unwavering affection for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, leaving behind fond memories and lessons that will live on for generations to come.
A Memorial Mass will be held on July 19, 2025 at 9:00am, St Mary Church- Holy Spirit Parish, New Castle, PA.
