Mr. Charles Andrew Dowdle, 77, of Franklin, NC passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Charles was born in Rabun County, GA July 8, 1948, to the late Erwin and Ada Kiser Dowdle.
He served during the Vietnam War on Navy ships, USS Edson and USS Buchanan, from 1967-1969. He was a member of the VFW 7339; American Legion Post 108; and VVA 994. He was patriotic and a proud supporter of his country and those who served.
He enjoyed several vocations during his lifetime: cooking for the Indian Mound Burger Chief; doing masonry work; operating Loafer's Glory; and owning Dowdle Feed and Seed from 1985 until 2013. Charlie was very creative and loved local and community history. He was generous and often shared his time and resources with his community.
Charles was also quite a jokester and prankster especially with his close friends. There are many stories that have been shared about his antics.
Survivors include his daughter, Juleigh Dowdle and her husband, Hank Rogers; sister, Mavis Stiles; a grandson, Zeke Rogers; nephew, Todd Stiles and his wife, Gwen; nieces, Laken and Loren Stiles; special friend, Cindy Callahan; and his former wife, Peggy Huscusson.
A Military graveside service will be held Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Reeves officiating. The family will greet friends following the graveside. Pallbearers will be Denny Ledford, Todd Stiles, Jeff Clark, Hank Rogers, Zeke Rogers, and Ricky Tallent. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 108 and VVA 994.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Care Partners Hospice, Companion Health Care, Bob Mills, and the many friends and family who supported Charles during his illness and passing.
