Charles, Stephen "Sonny" Edwards, 79, loving husband to Paula Edwards, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, December 23, 2024.
Born in Greenville, South Carolina on May 21, 1945, to the late Charles and Mary Stephens Edwards.
Sonny was a Wade Hampton High School graduate in 1963 and then went to the University of South Carolina briefly before proudly serving two years in the US Army. In 1994 he graduated in the first four year graduating class at North Greenville University with a bachelor's degree in religion. Sonny then began working on his master's degree at Southern Theological Seminary through a program at North Greenville University.
At Edwards Road Baptist Church, Sonny not only developed lifelong friendships, but also met the love of his life Paula and they were married for 38 years. He was actively involved in various ministries from teaching the Single Adult Sunday School Classes to volunteering in outreach programs like the after school Good News Club.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a granddaughter, Madison Allen and her husband Tyler; and great-grandchildren, Trent and Blakely Allen.
In addition to his parents, Sonny was predeceased by his daughters, Shea Edwards and Shannon Edwards Fowler.
A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2024, with the funeral service following at 12:00 p.m. at Edwards Road Baptist Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship 918 S. Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville, SC 29607 or to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, Edwards Road Baptist Church 1050 Edwards Road Greenville, SC 29615.
